Transitioning from Primary to Secondary
Moving on from Primary to Secondary school can be a difficult time for children, so we are committed to doing all that we can to help make that process as smooth as possible.
The year 6 transition assembly is delivered by Pete Hewlett (Cohesion Transition Worker), Amber Delves (Signposts co-ordinator) and members of the Signposts and Cohesion teams. They are supported in the delivery by a team of 15 volunteers from over 8 churches across Farnham. The transition tour is delivered in 9 schools around Farnham.
The assembly runs for around 50 minutes. It is full of games, quizzes, videos, and other activities and illustrations, all designed to prepare the children practically for their move to secondary school.
Woven into the assembly are teaching concepts such as:
- We are all made to be unique
- How to resist peer pressure
- How to make friends and join clubs
- How God is always with us
- The importance of communication
- Giving teachers a chance
- Strategies to cope with homework
As well as preparing the children for secondary school , it gives them a chance to meet Pete and other members of the Cohesion team who will become friendly and familiar faces to them in their new school.
